Calimesa, CA.- One person was killed in a crash involving a Riverside County Sheriff's deputy on Saturday morning in Calimesa, according to the authorities.
At around 10:03 a.m. September 6, the deputy was responding to reports of a shooting incident when the crash occurred on Cherry Valley Boulevard and Roberts Street.
The deputy had the sirens and lights on when he collided with another vehicle at the intersection.
The driver of the second vehicle, Gavin Hinkey, 21, of Cherry Valley, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A passenger in that vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The deputy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was treated for minor injuries.
Impairment was not suspected to have played a role in the collision, the CHP reported.
The accident remained under investigation.
