Gary Hartig Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 90 in Cle Elum

Cle Elum, WA – The Washington State Police has identified a victim killed in a Monday afternoon multi-vehicle collision in Cle Elum as 70-year-old Gary Hartig from Lewiston.

The mishap happened at around 12:47 p.m. on March 10 on Interstate 90 near milepost 81.

A preliminary investigation revealed that traffic had slowed due to debris in the left lane when the driver of a truck failed to slow down, colliding with two cars traveling eastbound.

Hartig was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later died. His passenger was not injured. The driver of the other car involved also escaped unharmed.

The truck driver, a 59-year-old man from Spokane Valley, faces charges of negligent driving in the second degree. He was not injured in the crash.

No additional details about the accident were available.

The incident remains under investigation.
