2 Children Injured in Fresno Pedestrian Crash at Shaw Avenue and First Street

Fresno, CA – A vehicle struck and injured two children at an intersection near a school in Fresno on Tuesday afternoon.

A report by the Fresno Police Department indicates that the incident took place at about 2:45 p.m. March 10, at Shaw Avenue and First Street near Carter G. Woodson Multimedia School.

A preliminary investigation reveals that two children were running across the roadway outside of the crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle.

The children were rushed to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Fresno police said the children are aged approximately 12 or 13 years old. It’s unclear whether the children are students at the school.

The driver who struck the pedestrians remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

There were no additional details on the incident. An investigation by the Fresno Police Department is ongoing.

Drivers are required by law to exercise due care to avoid collisions with pedestrians. Pedestrians walking in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections have the right of way. Furthermore, pedestrians attempting to cross outside of the crosswalks must yield to vehicles to avoid being hit. Pedestrians should also walk facing traffic when walking on a roadway that lacks a sidewalk. These laws are considered when determining fault and liability in pedestrian accident cases.
