Escondido, CA – An 11-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital Wednesday evening after a hit-and-run collision near an intersection in Escondido left him with critical injuries.
The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. near East Washington Avenue and North Hickory Street, according to the Escondido Police Department.
Investigators said the child lives at the location where the collision occurred. Police stated that the boy had been playing with another child when he ended up in the roadway and was struck by an unknown vehicle.
Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital before he was airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
Police said conflicting witness accounts prevented them from confirming a vehicle or driver description. Detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to come forward.
