Oceanside, CA.- An elderly bicyclist was killed in an accident in Oceanside on Sunday morning, according to a report by the Oceanside Police Department.

The accident happened on the San Luis Rey River Trail west of Mance Buchanon Park at around 10:40 a.m.

According to police, a 72-year-old man was riding a bicycle westbound when he tried to pass a 7-year-ol child on a scooter.

The scooter rider abruptly drifted into bicyclist’s path, causing the bicyclist to crash.

The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the scene and performed life-saving measures on the rider, before transporting him to Fire Station 5 to be airlifted to a hospital.

However, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries.

No other injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
