East Coachella, CA– Several people were injured in a head-on collision near an intersection in East Coachella on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Cal Fire, the accident was reported at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, on 66th Avenue and Buchanan Street in Mecca.
Authorities reported that at least two vehicles collided head-on near the intersection. The report did not specify how and why the vehicles crashed.
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the collision and found several victims with varying injuries.
After evaluation and on-scene treatment, eight patients were transfered to hospitals for further medical aid. Some patients were airlifted while others were transported by ground ambulances.
At least one of the vehicles was transported from the scene with major damage.
Authorities have not provided additional information on the incident. The circumstances under which the crash happened remained under investigation.
