Desert Center, CA – At least one person was seriously injured Friday afternoon following a rollover collision on Interstate 10 near Eagle Mountain Road in Riverside County.

The crash was reported at approximately 12:53 p.m. on Friday, August 14, on westbound Interstate 10 near mile marker 98.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, two vehicles were involved in the collision. As per the CHP, one of the vehicles overturned in the dirt area after traveling eastbound and swerving toward the westbound side of the freeway. The vehicle came to rest on its roof and caught fire, blocking the westbound lanes.

A caller reported that the vehicle had been traveling at high speeds, allegedly exceeding 100 mph, before the collision.

CAL FIRE responded to the scene, and a medical helicopter was requested to transport at least one person with major injuries.

Westbound lanes were temporarily closed to allow the helicopter to land.

The fire was put out, and the westbound lanes were subsequently reopened.

Details about how the two vehicles collided were not provided.
