Man Riding Bicycle Hit and Injured by Car in Eugene

Eugene, OR. – A 45-year-old man was hospitalized after a bicycle versus car accident that happened late Monday afternoon at an intersection in Eugene, the Eugene Police Department reported.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Boulevard and Highway 99.

Eugene Springfield Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and found the cyclist in the middle of the southbound lanes of Highway 99.

The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said investigators determined that the bicyclist was wearing dark clothing, had been riding with no lights, and entered the intersection without caution, against the pedestrian control device.

The cyclist was struck by a Lexus IS driving through the intersection on a green light.

The driver of the Lexus stopped and called 911.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
