Clark County, WA – Two babies were transported to a hospital following a crash that led to the arrest of a suspected DUI driver in Clark County on Thursday evening, according to a report by the Washington State Patrol.
The crash happened on Interstate 5 Northbound near milepost 19 shortly before 6 p.m. January 22.
According to the investigators, Bethany Moyer, 35, of Vancouver, was driving a Honda Pilot northbound on I-5 when, for unknown reasons, she drifted across multiple lanes and collided with a second Honda Pilot.
Moyer then overcorrected and slammed into the embankment on the right shoulder, causing her car to roll onto its side.
The WSP reported that two babies, aged 20 months and 4 months, were in Moyer's vehicle and were hospitalized with minor injuries. The children were reportedly in child seats but the seats were not properly restrained.
Moyer was transported to a hospital, after which she was booked on charges of DUI and child endangerment.
The driver of the second Honda, a 54-year-old man from Longview, was not injured in the incident.
The Washington State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the collision.
Traffic-related deaths in Clark have remained a serious concern, averaging 34 fatalities annually between 2021 and 2023. The situation worsened as it reached its highest point in 2022, when 38 lives were lost due to traffic collisions. Data from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) shows that a large share of these fatal crashes occurred on state highways, with Interstate 5 ranking among the most dangerous roadways in the county.
These routes are particularly hazardous due to a combination of sharp curves and heavy traffic flow, including frequent semi-truck activity. Such conditions often lead to risky passing maneuvers, increasing the likelihood of vehicles veering into oncoming lanes. In addition to roadway design and traffic volume, contributing factors commonly include impaired driving, excessive speed, unsafe passing, and driver distraction. Motorists are strongly encouraged to stay alert, especially when traveling through high-risk areas like I-90, to reduce the chances of being involved in a devastating crash.
