Investigations found that a vehicle was traveling south on SR 97A when the driver drifted into the northbound side and collided head-on with an oncoming car

Chelan County, WA.- One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision that occurred nearly four miles southwest of Chelan in Chelan County on Tuesday evening.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the rollover crash happened at about 7:12 p.m. on December 9, 2025, on State Route 97A near milepost 227.
Investigations found that a vehicle was traveling south on SR 97A when the driver drifted into the northbound side and collided head-on with an oncoming car.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to roll over.
According to the WSP, one person was killed in the crash. Two other parties sustained unspecified injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
Fatalities due to traffic colisions in Chelan County avaraged 7 in the years between 2021 and 2023. The peak was in 2022, when the county recorded 9 fatalities and this dropped by 22% to 7 in 2023. Most fatal accidents occurred on state routes, especially State Route 97, which is regarded as the deadliest in Chelan County. According to the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) data, state routes contributed to 28% of the fatalities recorded statewide in 2023. Apart from weather, other driver errors including speed, distracted driving, and drinking under the influence also continue to play a key role in these accidents, stressing the need for more sensitization to ensure drivers adhere to the set laws and keep road users safe.
