Street Racing Suspected in Cathedral City Car Accident that Left 4 People Hospitalized

Cathedral City, CA – Four people were hospitalized after a violent two-vehicle collision that happened early Wednesday morning near an intersection in Cathedral City.

Authorities suspect street racing contributed to the collision that occurred just before 4 a.m. on May 6 near Date Palm Drive and Ramon Road.

According to the Cathedral City Police, a BMW and another vehicle were reportedly speeding side-by-side in separate lanes when a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck turned into the path of the BMW.

The BMW and the pickup truck were involved in a violent crash.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and found four people – one from the pickup truck and three from the BMW – with injuries. Two of the patients were hospitalized with serious injuries, and the other two with concussions.

According to police, the driver of the BMW was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was found in the back seat of the car after the incident.

Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles racing westbound on Ramon Road just before the BMW collided with the pickup truck.

Investigators are working to determine if street racing was a contributing factor.
