Bicyclist Killed in Suspected DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Carlsbad Boulevard in Carlsbad

The collision was reported around 4:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, between Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road, the Carlsbad Police Department reported.

Carlsbad, CA – A bicyclist was killed early Saturday morning in a suspected DUI hit-and-run crash that happened in Carlsbad.

The collision was reported around 4:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, between Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road, the Carlsbad Police Department reported.

Police said a northbound vehicle struck the bicyclist and fled the scene.

The victim died at the crash scene.

Officers later arrested 27-year-old Alexander Gendron of Escondido about a mile away. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on DUI and hit-and-run charges.

Investigators said Gendron was located with the assistance of community members, automated license plate readers, and a drone.

The northbound lanes of Carlsbad Boulevard remained closed during the investigation.
