Bakersfield, CA – The pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle in Northeast Bakersfield on Friday night has been identified.

According to the Kern County Coroner’s Office, Patrick Harold McKendry, 72, of Bakersfield, was the victim of the incident that happened in the 5600 block of Auburn Street at about 7:10 p.m. on Friday, April 18.

The Bakersfield Police Department reported that McKendry had just stepped out of a GET bus when he went into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Auburn Street.

Police and emergency crews immediately responded to the scene and found the pedestrian lying in the roadway. McKendry was declared deceased at the scene.

The involved driver was at the scene when authorities arrived and was cooperative with the investigators. The driver was not suspected to have been impaired or speeding.
