Bakersfield, CA – A man was killed in a crash involving a Honda Civic and a semi-truck on Highway 99 in Bakersfield early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Police said a man was driving a 2015 black Honda Civic northbound in the No. 3 lane at a high rate of speed behind a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck, operated by a 34-year-old Delano man. The semi-truck was traveling at approximately 55 mph when. For some reason, the Honda driver crashed into the rear of the semi’s trailer. The impact sent the Honda onto the right shoulder beneath the Hosking Avenue overpass.
The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The driver of the Peterbilt suffered minor injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. No arrests were reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities said it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. Weather conditions were reported to be clear at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders and CHP officers arrived at the scene and conducted the on-scene investigation while assisting those involved.
The collision caused disruptions along northbound Highway 99 near Hosking Avenue as crews worked to investigate and clear the wreckage.
