The collision happened just after midnight on southbound Weedpatch Highway just south of Eucalyptus Drive.

Bakersfield, CA – A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Weedpatch Highway in east Bakersfield early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 12:00 a.m. on southbound Weedpatch Highway just south of Eucalyptus Drive.
Authorities said a 39-year-old man was riding a bicycle southbound on Weedpatch Highway when an Infiniti sedan traveling in the same direction collided with the bicyclist under circumstances that remain under investigation.
The bicyclist was ejected from the bicycle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of the next of kin. The driver of the Infiniti was not injured, and no arrests were reported.
CHP said drugs or alcohol were not considered factors for the driver, although it remains unknown whether impairment may have contributed to the actions of the bicyclist.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene shortly after the collision was reported and conducted an on-scene investigation into the fatal Bakersfield crash.
The collision caused disruptions in the area as authorities investigated the scene and cleared the roadway.
The incident remains under investigation.
