Athens, GA – A bicyclist died days after a collision involving a suspected DUI motorist in Athens on Saturday night, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
The driver was arrested on multiple charges following the incident that took place at around 8:30 p.m. on February 21, on Olympic Drive near Athena Drive.
Athens-Clarke County police reported that a 2013 BMW 650i was traveling westbound on Olympic Drive when it rear-ended a GS5 740 W electric bicycle that was also heading west.
Police and National EMS personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and attended to the bicyclist. The rider was then rushed to a hospital in critical condition
According to the authorities, the rider succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Monday, February 23. He has since been identified as Kul Chokhal, 37, of Athens.
The driver of the BMW, Terrence White, 45, of Athens, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, vehicular assault, and following too closely.
No additional details on the wreck were released. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating the deadly accident.
