Hemet, CA. – 49-year-old Ambrocio Cota died when his car collided head-on with another vehicle Tuesday evening in Hemet, authorities reported.
The wreck took place just before 7 p.m. on Highway 74 near Joppe Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cota was driving a 2010 Lexus IS250 eastbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, he veered across the center divider into the westbound traffic and collided head-on with a 2024 Chevrolet Express van.
The Lexus continued into a northeasterly direction and collided with a chain-link fence.
Riverside County Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced Cota dead at the scene.
The driver of the van suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
Both vehicles acquired major front-end damage.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
