Balboa Park, CA – An elderly man was transported to a hospital with major injuries after being struck by a vehicle near Balboa Park on Monday evening, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The incident took place on 6th Avenue and Grape Street shortly before 8 p.m. August 18.

San Diego police reported that a 78-year-old woman was driving a 2020 Honda Accord sedan southbound on 6th Avenue when she struck a pedestrian walking east across the intersection in the crosswalk.

The victim, a 92-year-old man, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

According to SDPD, impairment is not suspected to have played a role in the incident.

The accident remained under investigation.
