26-Year-Old Irving Jose Orozco Gomez Killed in Santa Ana Freeway Crash near Sand Canyon Avenue in Irvine

Irvine, CA. – 26-year-old Irving Jose Orozco Gomez of Los Angeles was killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Irvine, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes near Sand Canyon Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators said Gomez was driving an Infiniti, speeding toward slowed traffic, when he struck the rear of a Jeep, forcing it into a Mazda SUV.

Gomez died at the scene.

The Jeep driver suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized, while the Mazda driver was treated at the scene.
Traffic was backed up for miles as CHP temporarily closed all northbound lanes, reopening one about 20 minutes later.

The crash remains under investigation.
