Madera, CA.- Two people were hurt in a car collision in Madera on Monday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident took place on Avenue 18 1/2 and Road 19 1/2 at around 3:25 p.m. August 4.

According to investigators, a 56-year-old man was driving a Ram 2500 southbound on Road 19 1/2 when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection.

The driver drifted across the double yellow lines to pass a stopped big rig and ended up crashing into a GMC Yukon that was traveling east on Avenue 18 1/2.

The Ram then crashed into a stop sign and a power pole, before overturning and coming to a rest next to a house.

The driver of the GMC was extricated and was flown to CRMC with major injuries.

A passenger in the GMC had minor injuries.

According to CHP, the driver of the Ram was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
