San Diego, CA. – A 19-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle collision that happened early Saturday morning in San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The incident took place around 12:19 a.m. in the 15000 block of Carmel Valley Road near Black Mountain Road.
According to SDPD, the man was driving a Honda Civic eastbound on Carmel Valley Road at a high rate of speed when he drifted to the right onto the south sidewalk.
The driver lost control and went across the eastbound lanes onto the center median.
The Civic crashed into a tree and continued into the westbound lanes, where it collided with a Honda Accord driven by an 18-year-old man.
The 19-year-old driver was ejected from the Civic, sustaining life-threatening brain injuries and several fractures.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported both drivers to the hospital.
Authorities are investigating alcohol as a contributing factor.
