, CA. – A 12-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in El Cajon, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

The collision happened around 8 p.m. in the 300 block of Ballantyne Street

Officers and paramedics arrived to find the child in the roadway with major head injuries.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The driver did not stop after the crash.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white or silver SUV with front-end damage.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the driver to contact El Cajon PD.

The accident remains under investigation.
