1 Killed, 6 Injured in Multi-Car Collision on 210 Freeway in Los Angeles

According to the California Highway Patrol logs, the pileup was reported around 7:53 p.m. on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, just east of the Sunland Boulevard off-ramp.

, CA. – At least one person died, and several others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle accident that happened Sunday night in the Shadow Hills area of Los Angeles.

According to the California Highway Patrol logs, the pileup was reported around 7:53 p.m. on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, just east of the Sunland Boulevard off-ramp.

Six vehicles were involved in the collision. At least one of the cars was reportedly driving recklessly, getting in and out of lanes and cutting off other motorists prior to the crash.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and shut down all the westbound lanes.

At least one person died in the accident.

Three patients were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, two others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and one declined transportation.

One of the victims was trapped inside their car after the crash.

Authorities are investigating the accident.

According to data published by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Los Angeles consistently records a high volume of traffic collisions, although recent years have shown some decline in total victims killed and injured when compared to pre-pandemic highs. is consistently the top county in the state for both accident volume and injuries.  In 2022, the most recent year with complete OTS ranking data, Los Angeles recorded a total of 8,944 victims killed and injured in traffic accidents, giving it an OTS ranking of 14 out of 15 among peer cities, a significant improvement from its worst ranking of 1/15 in 2018 and 2019. In that same year, specific collision types in the county included 1,676 victims in alcohol-involved collisions, 1,524 pedestrians, and 475 bicyclists. More recent preliminary data for the City of Los Angeles in 2024 reported around 302 traffic fatalities, with pedestrians making up a significant portion of the victims.  Impaired driving and speeding remain primary factors in many serious and crashes across the state and in Los Angeles. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable, accounting for over one-third of traffic deaths in the county.
