The CHP reported that a group of family and friends were riding horses on the side of SR 371 when two horses entered the roadway

Anza, CA.- One person was killed when a car hit horse riders in Anza on Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place on SR-371 near Contreras Road, just before 9:30 p.m. August 31.
The CHP reported that a group of family and friends were riding horses on the side of SR 371 when two horses entered the roadway.
The two horses were struck by a vehicle traveling west on SR 371.
The two female riders were ejected from their horses following the crash.
One of the women was pronounced deceased at the scene while the second was taken to a hospital with major injuries.
The driver was unhurt and stayed at the scene.
Speed and impairment were not suspected in the incident, according to CHP.
The crash is under investigation.
