Rancho Cordova, CA – Three people, including a 10-year-old Mather Heights Elementary School student, were seriously injured in a head-on collision that happened Wednesday morning in Rancho Cordova, authorities reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 8 a.m. on September 30, 2026, on Mather Boulevard, just south of Douglas Road.
Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities established that a gray Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on Mather Boulevard when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Equinox heading northbound.
Three people sustained serious injuries in the crash. Two of them, including a 10-year-old student at Mather Heights Elementary School, were listed in critical condition.
Authorities are investigating the possibility that the Hyundai may have been attempting to pass a slower-moving car at the time of the collision.
Mather Boulevard between Douglas and Alert roads was closed for several hours following the crash.
