Hayward, CA – At least one person was severely injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Sunday night in Hayward, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident occurred around 9:04 p.m. on September 20, 2026, on southbound Interstate 880, just west of the West Winton Avenue off-ramp.
Four vehicles, including a black Volkswagen Passat and a red Toyota Corolla, were involved in the collision.
At least one person sustained major injuries in the crash. The person was hospitalized in unknown condition.
The exact cause of the crash remained unknown at the time of the report, but authorities were informed by a person reporting the accident that one of the cars was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit another car that was stalled in traffic lanes with the hazard lights on.
The collision forced the closure of Nos. 4 and 5 lanes, as well as both the eastbound and westbound Winton Avenue on-ramps to southbound I-880.
