Investigators reported that a bicyclist was riding southbound in a crosswalk attempting to cross Grant Road when he was hit at the intersection of Arcadia Avenue by a Volkswagen SUV heading west.

Tucson, AZ – A bicycle rider was hit and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday morning in downtown Tucson, according to the Tucson Police Department.

At around 7:30 a.m. September 8, authorities responded to reports of an accident on Grant Road and Arcadia Avenue.

Investigators reported that a bicyclist was riding southbound in a crosswalk attempting to cross Grant Road when he was hit at the intersection of Arcadia Avenue by a Volkswagen SUV heading west.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was identified as Steven Lee McClain, 76.

The Tucson Police Department and firefighters with the Tucson Fire Department aided the involved parties at the scene.

It’s unclear whether alcohol or drugs played any role in the incident.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
