The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 1:34 a.m. on September 2, 2026, on northbound Highway 99, south of Carpenter Road.

Modesto, CA – A man attempting to cross Highway 99 in Modesto early Wednesday morning was struck and killed by a vehicle, authorities reported.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 1:34 a.m. on September 2, 2026, on northbound Highway 99, south of Carpenter Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 63-year-old woman from Manteca was driving a gray Kia sedan northbound on the highway when a man walked or ran from the center median to the east shoulder. By so doing, the pedestrian moved directly into the path of the Kia and got hit.
Emergency personnel responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The driver was traveling at about 65 miles per hour at the time of the collision and was wearing her seatbelt. She was not injured.
Impairment was not considered to be a contributing factor.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
