Torrance, CA – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle Monday night while crossing Madrona Avenue in Torrance, according to the Torrance Police Department.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the deceased pedestrian as 27-year-old Yuta Sasagawa.
The collision occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, in the area of Madrona Avenue and Garnet Street.
According to investigators, Sasagawa was crossing Madrona Avenue outside a marked crosswalk. Southbound traffic had stopped to allow him to cross. As he continued across the roadway, a vehicle traveling northbound on Madrona Avenue struck him.
Torrance Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical aid to the pedestrian. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities determined that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
