Phoenix, AZ– Authorities are investigating a deadly collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Sunday night in Phoenix.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the accident took place near 48th and Van Buren streets shortly before midnight on Sunday, August 23.
Initial reports indicate that the pedestrian was trying to walk across 48th Street mid-block when a vehicle struck him.
Police arrived shortly after and located the pedestrian, who was in critical condition, lying in the roadway.
Medics rushed the pedestrian to a hospital but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police identified the victim a Sharmarke Ismail, 44.
The driver of the involved vehicle stayed at the scene and was not suspected of impairment.
The Phoenix Police Department is handling an ongoing investigation into the accident and additional details are expected to be released.
