San Mateo County, CA – A motorcyclist sustained major injuries after colliding with a car Saturday morning near Pomponio State Beach in San Gregorio, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to CHP logs, the incident was reported around 4:20 p.m. on August 22, 2026, on northbound Cabrillo Highway, also known as Highway 1, at the Pomponio State Beach entrance.
The rider of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a white SUV under unclear circumstances.
Several motorists stopped nearby to offer help to the rider, who was lying possibly unconscious in a nearby brush about 10 feet from the roadway.
Authorities responded to the scene and blocked traffic in both directions.
The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. His condition remained unknown.
The bike was towed away with major front-end damage.
CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
