Oakland, CA – The family of the woman who was hit by a car driven by two brothers under the age of 10 Thursday morning near an intersection in Oakland identified her as 31-year-old Kiara Bowling.
Bowling was walking her friend’s dog on August 6, 2026, near 35th Avenue and Mangels Avenue when she was struck by a white Toyota Camry.
Based on surveillance footage from nearby cameras, Bowling stepped off the curb before she was hit by the Toyota driven by two brothers ages 6 and 4, just after it had sideswiped an oncoming vehicle. The sideswipe collision sent the Toyota straight into Bowling, who was struck off-camera. The car then left the roadway, crashed through a fence, and came to a rest in the front yard of a home.
Bowling was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, including multiple brain injuries. She remained hospitalized at Highland Hospital. Her family opened a GoFundMe page to help them raise funds for her medical expenses.
The two boys were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led the kids to operate the vehicle.

Oakland, CA – A woman was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a child in the Barlett neighborhood of East Oakland on Thursday morning.
According to the Oakland Police Department, the collision was reported at around 9:30 a.m. August 6, near 35th and Mangels avenues.
Preliminary reports indicate that a child under the age of 10 was driving a white Toyota Camry southbound on 35th Avenue when the vehicle clipped a second vehicle heading north.
The first vehicle lost control and hit a woman walking her dog in a crosswalk at the intersection of Mangels Avenue. It then left the roadway, crashed through a fence, and ended up in the front yard of a home.
The woman struck by the vehicle was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries. Her dog was unharmed in the incident.
The child who was driving the first car also had a minor under the age of 10 as a passenger. They were both transported to a hospital and were said to be in stable condition.
Police responded to the scene and contacted the parents of the involved children. The parents were cooperative with law enforcement.
