Perris, CA – A motorcyclist was critically injured in a traffic collision involving a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:22 p.m. on August 5, in the 500 block of West 4th Street.

Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene and found the motorcyclist in the roadway with significant injuries. The rider was transported to a local hospital, where they remained in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 61-year-old Mauricio Cruz Cortez of Murrieta, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Deputies later determined that Cortez was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the collision.

Cortez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury.

The Perris Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Westbound lanes of West 4th Street were temporarily closed while deputies processed the scene and collected evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
