The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, near milepost 90 on Highway 30, close to Timmerman Road near Astoria.

Clatsop County, OR – A 55-year-old Portland man was killed, and another man suffered minor injuries after a motorcycle collided head-on with a van on Highway 30 in Clatsop County, according to Oregon State Police.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, near milepost 90 on Highway 30, close to Timmerman Road near Astoria.
According to the preliminary investigation, Samuel Stephen Clutter, 55, of Portland, was riding a black Triumph Daytona eastbound on Highway 30 when he attempted to pass in a no-passing zone. The motorcycle crossed into the westbound travel lane and collided head-on with a yellow Ford Transit van operated by 42-year-old Matthew James Weatherman of Warrenton.
Clutter was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weatherman sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Highway 30 was impacted for approximately five hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation.
The Oregon State Police investigation was assisted by the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Knappa Fire District, Medix Ambulance Service, Clatsop County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
