Riverside, CA – 60-year-old Roland Barsoum died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened early Thursday morning on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Riverside, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office reported.
The collision occurred just before 5 a.m. on July 30, on the Pomona (60) Freeway near Market Street.
According to investigators, Barsoum, a Los Angeles resident, was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette at a high rate of speed in the No. 2 lane when he approached a slower-moving semi-truck and failed to brake. His sports sedan crashed into the back of the big rig, causing it to deflect and collide with a 2018 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck entering the freeway from Market Street. The second impact sent the Corvette off the freeway and down an embankment.
The big rig veered into the center divider and came to a stop there. The pickup truck stopped on the freeway shoulder.
Emergency personnel responded and pronounced Barsoum dead at the scene.
The drivers of the semi-truck and the pickup truck did not require treatment.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
