Bakersfield, CA – Two people were killed in a collision that occurred on Highway 33 in Bakersfield on Friday afternoon, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened at Elkhorn Grade Road at around 4 p.m. on Friday, July 24.
According to the CHP, a 23-year-old man was driving a 2005 Honda Civic northbound on Highway 33 when, for unknown reasons, he drifted into the southbound side. The Civic collided with an oncoming 2022 Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old man.
The driver of the Civic and one of his passengers, a 55-year-old woman, were both killed in the accident. Three other passengers in the vehicle were transported to hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the Honda Accord was also transported with serious injuries.
Investigators reported that impairment was not suspected to have factored in the accident.
The exact circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
