According to the authorities, John Jessup, 76, of La Center, was driving northbound on Lewis River Road when he drifted across the centerline and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by Riggin Bliss, 17.

Ariel, WA – A volunteer firefighter was injured in a collision with another driver in Ariel on Monday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The accident took place on Lewis River Road near milepost 33 on Monday, June 22.
According to the authorities, John Jessup, 76, of La Center, was driving northbound on Lewis River Road when he drifted across the centerline and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by Riggin Bliss, 17.
Volunteers with Fire District 7 responded to the scene shortly after and attended to Bliss. Authorities reported that Bliss is volunteer at the fire department.
Bliss was extricated from his vehicle and was transported to a hospital with multiple injuries, including a broken femur, fibia and tibia, and bruising to his chest and neck. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Jessup was flown to a hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that Jessup was suspected to have been impaired and was charged with vehicular assault.
No additional details on the collision were immediately available. The WSP is still investigating the circumstances of the accident.
