San Leandro, CA – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Friday night on the 880 Freeway in San Leandro, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident transpired around 10:42 p.m. on June 19, 2026, in the westbound lanes of the freeway just north of the Davis Street off-ramp.
A driver reporting the accident told authorities that a pedestrian was crossing the lanes from the left-hand shoulder towards the right when the motorist slowed to avoid hitting him, but the car behind them hit the pedestrian. The vehicle involved pulled over on the right shoulder.
The pedestrian died in the crash.
Firefighters responded to the scene and blocked the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 lanes, as well as the Davis on-ramp to the northbound 880 Freeway. All lanes were back open at 1:13 a.m. Saturday.
A coroner representative responded to the scene following the fatality.
CHP is investigating the accident.
