San Diego, CA – The man who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 15 in San Diego late Sunday night has been identified, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 31-year-old Muhammad Ali Carson Jr. of San Diego.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 10:27 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026, on southbound Interstate 15 near Carroll Canyon Road, north of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
Investigators said the crash involved a gray Ford Escape, an Audi RS7, a gray BMW, and a motorcycle. According to authorities, the Audi, operated by a 21-year-old driver, struck the Ford Escape and pushed it into the right shoulder wall. The Escape then became fully engulfed in flames. Debris from the collision was scattered across the freeway, and a witness reported seeing one of the vehicles strike the motorcycle.
Carson, who was operating the Ford Escape at the time, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:56 p.m. Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but he did not survive. The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old rider, sustained minor injuries in the collision.
Authorities have indicated that reckless driving prior to the collision is among the factors being examined.
California Highway Patrol officers, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene. Fire crews extinguished the burning vehicle while investigators documented the crash and assisted those involved.
Lanes 5, 6, and 7 of the freeway were closed for several hours, and the eastbound Mira Mesa Road on-ramp was temporarily shut down while authorities processed the scene and removed damaged vehicles. All lanes were reopened at approximately 2:42 a.m.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the collision have not been released.
