Shasta County, CA – A 63-year-old man from Shingletown died, and several others were injured in a head-on accident that happened late Saturday afternoon on Highway 44 near Shingletown, authorities reported.
56-year-old Chanh Saechao of Oakland was among those injured in the collision that happened just before 6 p.m., May 9, on eastbound Highway 44 west of Inwood Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the Shingletown man was driving a Honda Accord eastbound when, for an unknown reason, he veered across the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma truck driven by Saechao.
The Shingletown man died at the scene of the crash. His name was not immediately released.
Saechao and her 3 female passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries. The passengers are in their 50’s and 60’s from Redding and Richmond, California.
CHP said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Shasta County, CA – One person died, and four others were injured in a head-on collision that happened Saturday afternoon on State Route 44 in Shingletown, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to CHP, two vehicles collided around 5:56 p.m., May 9, in front of the 2831 block of SR-44 near Inwood Road.
First responders found a black Honda Accord and a Toyota Tacoma involved in a head-on accident.
A male occupant of one of the vehicles was pinned inside.
Cal Fire responded to the scene with fire engines and ambulances and blocked both traffic lanes.
One person died from injuries sustained in the crash, the report said.
Four others were injured. Two suffered moderate injuries, and two others were walking around with less serious injuries.
Investigators did not immediately determine the cause of the collision, but an investigation is ongoing.
