Menifee, CA – A pedestrian was hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a suspected DUI motorist in Menifee early Saturday morning, according to the Menifee Police Department.
The driver was arrested following the collision that took place just after 4:58 a.m. on May 9, near Menifee and Newport roads.
According to the authorities, Omar Sangines, 32, of Winchester, was driving a Kia sedan at a high rate of speed through the intersection on a green light when he struck a male pedestrian. The victim was reportedly walking across the intersection in a crosswalk when he was hit.
Menifee police and emergency crews responded to the scene and located the pedestrian with severe injuries.
The victim was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center with major head injuries. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
Sangines was treated for minor injuries by the medics. He was then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked at Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.
Roads were shut down near the Menifee Road intersection with Newport Road as authorities investigated the accident.
