Salinas, CA – Two paramedics were injured in an ambulance crash that led to the arrest of a suspected DUI motorist in Salinas on Saturday.

According to a Salinas Police Department report, the two-vehicle accident took place on Boronda Road on Saturday, May 2.

A preliminary investigation determined that Armando Ortiz Mendoza, 26, was driving a Chevy Cruze westbound on Boronda Road when he drifted across the double-yellow line and collided head-on with an oncoming ambulance.

The ambulance, which was responding to a medical emergency, had its lights and siren on when the two vehicles collided.

Two medics in the ambulance were transported to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Mendoza was also taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

Police reported that Mendoza was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol. He was later arrested and booked into jail on DUI charges.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Salinas Police Department.
