Investigations revealed that a woman was walking across Hearst Avenue in the crosswalk when she was hit by a 1995 Toyota T100 truck traveling eastbound.

Berkeley, CA – An elderly woman was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle on Wednesday morning in North Berkeley, according to the Berkeley Police Department.

At about 10 a.m. April 29, authorities responded to reports of a collision in the 1800 block of Hearst Avenue and Grant Street.

Investigations revealed that a woman was walking across Hearst Avenue in the crosswalk when she was hit by a 1995 Toyota T100 truck traveling eastbound.

Police and the Berkeley Fire Department responded to the scene within minutes and attended to the injured pedestrian.

The victim, only identified as a woman in her 80s, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries including a possible skull fracture, scalp laceration, broken arm and leg injuries. Medics transported her to Highland Hospital for treatment.

The driver was at the scene when authorities arrived and was cooperative with law enforcement.

Hearst Avenue was temporarily shut down as authorities investigated the incident.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Berkeley Police Department.
