Encino, CA – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly multi-vehicle crash on US 101 in Encino early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported at about 1:55 a.m. on northbound 101 Freeway just south of White Oak Avenue

CHP Officials said four vehicles, including a Honda Pilot, a white SUV, a black sedan, and a black SUV, were involved in the crash. The vehicles sustained major damage and were blocking multiple lanes following the collision.

Investigators said the incident began as a solo-vehicle crash, with the vehicle becoming disabled in the No. 1 lane, and a person was reported outside the car. A second vehicle then struck the rear of the second vehicle. A third vehicle then crashed into the first vehicle and the person standing outside the vehicle.

One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The total number of injured parties has not been confirmed. No arrests have been reported.

Emergency responders, including fire personnel and the coroner, arrived at the scene to assist and manage the situation. Authorities also requested multiple evidence tows for the involved vehicles.

The crash prompted a SigAlert, with all northbound lanes of US 101 temporarily shut down near White Oak Avenue, causing significant traffic congestion. Lanes were gradually reopened, though a hard closure remained in place for several hours during the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
