San Diego, CA – A pedestrian died after being hit by a train on Friday evening in downtown San Diego, according to a report by the San Diego Police Department.

The accident occurred at about 6:25 p.m. on May 22, in the 2100 block of Pacific Highway.

Preliminary reports indicate that a pedestrian was hit by a northbound train on the tracks. It’s unclear why the pedestrian was on the tracks when the incident transpired.

San Diego police officers responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. The victim’s name, age, or gender were not immediately released.

The NCTD announced a closure of the tracks between Old Town and Santa Fe Depot following the accident. Northbound passengers were urged to utilise MTS Trolley service to continue with their travel.

An investigation to establish the cause of the accident is still ongoing.
