Long Beach, CA – The 8-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a car after running into a Long Beach street Saturday afternoon has been identified as Jeremiah Hicks.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the accident occurred around 4:39 p.m. on May 16 near Paramount Boulevard and 56th Street.

Hicks was struck by a 2020 Honda Civic driven south on Paramount Boulevard by a 27-year-old Paramount driver after the boy reportedly ran into the street.

According to Hicks’ mother, Monique Boochie, her son had been playing with neighborhood children when a ball rolled into the street. Two little children who were with him said Hicks rushed to pick up the ball when he was struck.

Long Beach police and firefighters responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident.

Hicks was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident involving a child that happened Saturday afternoon near an intersection in the city.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 4:39 p.m., May 16, at Paramount Boulevard and 56th Street.

Reportedly, a 27-year-old Paramount resident was driving a 2020 Honda Civic south on Paramount Boulevard when a child ran into the roadway and was hit.

Long Beach firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene, where they found the child with fatal injuries. The juvenile was taken to the hospital, where they later died.

The driver stopped after the crash and remained at the scene. Speed, DUI, or distracted driving are not believed to be contributing factors.
