Riverside County, CA – A 62-year-old man was killed, and multiple others were injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 west of Washington Street on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:47 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, on Interstate 10 west of Washington Street, CHP reported.
Authorities said a 2021 Mack tractor-truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when it veered left, crossed through the center median, and entered westbound traffic. The Mack then broadsided a 2018 Peterbilt mixer truck. The tractor-trailer’s trailer came to rest perpendicular in the westbound lanes and was subsequently struck by a Jeep. The initial impact also led to four additional vehicles becoming involved in the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the Peterbilt mixer was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified only as a 62-year-old male resident of Yucca Valley.
Other drivers involved in the crash were transported to area hospitals with injuries.
CHP reported that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, and no arrests have been made.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived at the scene to assist the injured and manage the multi-vehicle scene.
The crash caused significant disruption on Interstate 10 in both directions as lanes were blocked while crews worked to clear wreckage and investigate.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
