Over the past five years, Sacramento County has experienced consistently high numbers of traffic collisions, with thousands of people injured or killed annually. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, the county recorded more than 11,000 fatal and injury victims in both 2022 and 2023 alone, highlighting the ongoing severity of crashes in the region. While exact yearly fatal-only totals vary, local reports indicate that traffic deaths often reach or exceed 100 per year, with Sacramento County surpassing that number in 2025. Contributing factors frequently include speeding, alcohol impairment, nighttime driving, and hit-and-run incidents, all of which remain significant concerns across the county’s roadways. These figures demonstrate a persistent pattern of serious and fatal crashes, particularly on major freeways and high-traffic corridors throughout the Sacramento area.
