Bakersfield, CA – A child was severely injured in a head-on collision that led to the arrest of one of the drivers in Bakersfield on Sunday night, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The wreck took place on Cottonwood Road and E Panama Lane at about 10 p.m. March 22.

According to the authorities, a white Jeep was traveling southbound on Cottonwood Road when, for unknown reasons, the driver drifted into the path of oncoming vehicles and crashed head-on with a northbound gray Honda.

A child riding in the Honda was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Both Drivers were also taken to the hospital with less serious injuries. The identities of the involved parties were not immediately released by the authorities.

According to the Bakersfield police, impairment was believed to have played a role in the collision. The driver of the Jeep was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

No additional details on the crash were immediately available. The Bakersfield Police Department is handling an ongoing investigation into the incident.
