According to 2025 LAPD data, traffic fatalities reached 290 — a 56% increase from 2015 levels — leading to recent calls for a “Traffic Violence State of Emergency.” While countywide fatalities dropped to 653 in 2024, the city itself continues to see a “grim plateau,” with vehicle-related deaths exceeding homicides for three consecutive years. Downtown LA, Sun Valley, and Wilmington remain high-risk hotspots, where pedestrian fatalities account for nearly half of all traffic-related deaths.
